4th of July
The 4th of July is the largest holidays on the lake, with families on every side celebrating together. One of the main events entails an afternoon boat parade; any cabin or house can join! Boats get decorated in a theme, it could be USA theme or anything else you creatively think of, and line up to parade around the coast of the whole lake. Many partake in the parade, those that don’t sit out on their docks and wave as the parade goes by. There are water balloons, water guns, cheering and lots of fun to be had!
At night the fun continues with Perham fireworks. The town puts on their own show that can either be watched in town or right from the lake! On top of this, many residents put on their own show, so sometimes the best tactic is to get bundled up, take your boat to the middle of the lake and watch all around you. Overall, there’s a lot of energy and excitement around the 4th, you won’t miss out while staying on Big Pine!

The Perham fair, or Ottertail County Fair, is a favorite among locals, but many visitors join the festivities as well! You will find almost the whole town here, whether you go during the day or partake in the night activities. This year (2016) the fair takes place the last week in July.
During the day there is fair food, bingo, and a carnival. If you are a lucky Bingo player, you may receive prizes in the form of ride tickets or free ice cream! The morning also allows for the Children’s Barn, filled with baby animals to pet and feed. There are discounts depending on the day; this year there are special days for those in the military, children, senior citizens and families.
At night, shows are the main drive. Consistently, there is a demolition derby and tractor pull; various other contests are added to the line-up each year. Keep in mind that the delicious food, carnival and bingo continues for those who don't wish to watch that night’s event. Either way, this is a chance to be apart of a community-event, it comes highly recommended!
