Small Town Charm

Perham, Minnesota is a small, but vibrant town in the Minnesota Lake County; Big Pine Lake borders the town of Perham, which is part of Ottertail County off Highway 10. There are just over 3,000 residents, and the town is home to many families due to many lake activities and year–round community events. People originally settled in the area in 1871 with the North Pacific Railroad running through town, but now tourism and various industries have become major players.

Perham holds many successful industries, such as Tuffy’s Dog Food, Barrel of Fun, Australian Licorice and numerous family farms. The town itself is full of charm, especially down Main Street. Main Street includes local shops, ice cream parlors, restaurants and unique family–owned boutiques; some Perham products are exported to over twenty countries worldwide, others are distributed nationally and regionally. Many generations have lived and spent their summers in Perham for the local atmosphere that combines small–town charm with big town activities.

Big Lake Feel

Big Pine Lake has provided fun for families over generations. The amount of cabins and permanent homes has grown greatly over the years, but with 4773 acres, there is plenty of space for everyone. The maximum depth is 76 feet, making this lake highly sought out by fishermen and women.

In the past, fishing was the primary draw. Today, fishing is still very popular, but much more family–owned homes have populated the area. Resorts have come and gone on the lake; current resorts include Whispering Pines, Big Pine Lodge and Golden Eagle, however, many lake–front properties are privately owned by local residents and out–of–town families. If not located directly on the lake, there is public access easily accessible to anyone. In general, the atmosphere is very up–beat, but there is always quiet places to park your boats if that is what you desire!
