Star Light, Star Bright
When the sun starts setting this doesn't mean the day’s adventures are over! Make sure to watch the sunset over Big Pine whenever possible, it is one of the most beautiful and serene settings. You will see a full spectrum of colors, ranging from red to blues and purples, slowly descending behind the pine trees while reflecting across the water. Sit on your dock, watch from the water or watch from your cabin, no matter where you are you won't be able to get enough.
When thinking back on summer nights, many remember nights out by the bonfire. Whether cooking dinner over the fire, making s’mores or simply wanting to sit around and enjoy the company of friends and family, a bonfire is a must have! Everyone has a chance to be together and enjoy the outdoors with all its beauty (just make sure you remember the bug spray!). Many laughs and stories are often shared, creating the ultimate atmosphere for any age or any size group.
After the sun has set for a couple hours, the stars begin to appear. Since Big Pine only neighbors smaller towns, the main one being Perham, there isn’t any city light to block the light of the night sky. You can see constellations, shooting stars, and on rare occasions meteor showers and the Northern Lights have been reported. Grab a blanket or a sleeping bag and lay down to stare at the stars, you could stay busy for hours with so much to look at. If you're feeling really adventurous, you could sleep or camp outside as well!
If you want to stay more active it can be fun to play night–games with children or larger groups! Some possibilities include Kick the Can, Sardines or Ghosts in the Graveyard. This is a great way to keep the excitement going and provides a twist on your average family night. In general, just as many memories can be shared during the nighttime as the daytime, you just have to pick what is right for your family or group of friends.
