Hello! My name is Gerald Schlabach. I am an associate professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Previously I taught history at Bluffton College, a Mennonite liberal arts college in Ohio. I received my doctorate from the University of Notre Dame, where I studied ethics in the Department of Theology. During much of the 1980s I worked in Central America with Mennonite Central Committee, a organization dedicated to peace, justice, Christ-like service and global education. A Roman Catholic as of Pentecost 2004, I am a Benedictine oblate, am deeply involved in the Bridgefolk movement for grassroots dialogue and unity between Mennonites and Catholics, and continue to call myself a "Mennonite Catholic."

A web site is a place for some mixture of shameless self-promotion and generous service to others, as I try to link up my interests and yours. I'm glad to share a statement of faith I once wrote, an essay on Christian higher education, or a list of the "core" questions behind the liberal arts. If you dig deeply, you may be able to figure out how I put together my indebtedness to the Mennonite community and its understanding of Christianity with my affinity for the thought of St. Augustine and my love for the Catholic tradition.

Of course, I have lots of other interests too. My family especially helps me keep perspective. (My son Gabriel, for example, drew the cartoon!)
