About Me

My name is Heather Rule. I am from Andover, Minn. and I'm very close with my parents and my younger brother Kyle. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas in December 2008 with a major in print journalism and an English minor. During my time at St. Thomas I participated in the Residence Hall Association, Society of Professional Journalists, women's choir and Communications Club. I also worked for the Aquin for two years as a staff writer and three semesters as the sports editor. I found that being the sports editor was a fitting position for me because I enjoy sports, especially watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild.

As far as goals, I like to take things one step at a time. I just recently finished my time as a Web Intern at North American Membership Group in Minnetonka, Minn. Now, I am working in the evenings part time as a Sports Copy Aide at the Star Tribune, while still job searching for a full-time position. My hope is to work at a newspaper, or another job related to journalism in the near future. I would prefer to work in the sports field, but I always want to keep an open mind to anything that comes along. My ultimate goal/dream job is to be a sports reporter or columnist covering a professional sports team.

Overall, St. Thomas was a great fit for me. Although there were the bumps in the road such as adjusting to living away from home, I really think St. Thomas was the right choice for me. I have never doubted my school choice. The wonderful journalism program and its professors helped me learn so much about my field of interest. Throughout the classes, it really made me see that I enjoy my major and this is really what I should be doing. Also, being a member of the Aquin staff was truly a beneficial experience.
