About SPJ

With nearly 10,000 members, the Socitey of Professional Journalists is the nation's most broad-based journalism organization. There are more than 250 SPJ chapters nationwide. SPJ "works to inspire and educate current and futre journalists through professional development and works to improve and protect journalism."

Who Can Join?

SPJ is open to all broadcast journalism, print journalism and communication majors. The St. Thomas chapter holds meetings once a month during the fall and spring semesters of the school yeare. SPJ gives students an opportunity to network with journlaism professionals, meet other journalism and communication students and explore the journalism career.

Benefits of SPJ

Student members of SPJ have many advantages. They have access to the national SPJ Web site, including job and internship searches. The Minnesota Pro Chapter of SPJ also plans events for students to attend. Students can hear from local professionals about how to prepare for a career in journalism or communication and make good contacts in the process.
