Just the Basics
The basics:
- Double Major in Mathematics and Economics at the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, MN.
- Member of the Naval ROTC Unit, University of Minnesota
- Active in mathematical research
Goals
I divide my goals into the personal, mathematical, and professional.Personal Goals:
- Get my degrees done successfully to graduate in May.
- Brew at least two more batches of beer prior to graduation.
- Learn Python.
- See the world.
- Get better with Linux.
Mathematical Goals:
- Publish a paper on my work with Dr. Arkady Shemyakin on Parametric Estimation for SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography).
- Publish a paper with Dr. Y. Yang and Luke Edholm on our work in Linear Algebra. This would probably involve determinant formulas for selected classes of matrices.
- Stay active in mathematical research after graduation.
- Graduate school?
Professional Goals:
- Learn to lead some of the finest sailors and military professionals in the world.
- Drive ships for the US Navy upon graduation.
- Earn a Surface Warfare Qualification.
Interests
Aside from the material laid out in the above goals section, I'm also interested in a wide and eclectic set of area. Mathematically I'm very interested in mathematical statistics, analysis, and probability. Information theory may be added to the list at some point after I learn more about it. As a homebrewer I am interested in getting my own gear once I leave college and continuing to pursue "the perfect beer". I also use and encourage use of GnuPG and encrypted text chat.Contact
I can be contacted via the following:
- LinkedIn (includes my vCard)
- Chat. I am tcfsaide2002 on AOL, tcfsaide2002@msn.com on WindowsLive, and jqmcclintic@gmail.com on Google Talk.
I have several university email accounts (one each for UST and the University of Minnesota) which will be ending soon. Please update your contact lists if you have me in them. I also use GnuPG for public key encryption. See below for encryption related information for both chat and email. At the bottom of the page is a copy of both my most commonly used public key as well as a signed copy of the fingerprint.
Encrypted Chat
I use Pidgin as my IM client for text chat and have both the Off-the-Record Messaging (3.0.0) and Pidgin-Encryption (3.0.0) plugins installed. Feel free to take advantage of this fact.Encrypted/Signed Email
My Practice
By default I try to sign all emails and attachments I send. I encourage all others to do the same. Please let me know if you would like to me to encrypt as well as sign email and attachments to you. I am more than happy to do this.DISCLAIMER: Sometimes when I am away from my laptop I will log onto my email though the web and cannot use GPG (this is especially true for my university email accounts). I prefer to not do this. Please do not trust any unsigned email with my name on it which seems out of sorts.
Keysigning Policy
If you are interested in exchanging signed or encrypted email and/or would like me to sign your public key, I have the following requirements based on whether or not we are able to meet face to face.Face-To-Face:
- When possible, we will meet face-to-face to conduct key exchange.
- You must bring at least one legal (government) ID.
- Bring a hardcopy of your key fingerprint.
- Bring a .asc file containing your key on CD or a flash drive. OR Send me a signed email containing your key fingerprint and attach your signed public key file (.asc-type text files please). Sign it with the key matching the fingerprint (which should also be the one you attached).
- I will import your key into GPG, verify the keyfile's signature and the signature on the fingerprint.
- I will compare the fingerprint generated by GPG with the one provided in your email.
- I will ask you to verify the key fingerprint in the email and the one generated by GPG.
- By default your key will be signed with marginal trust but I will upgrade that once you have demonstrated you can properly use signatures and encryption.
Other:
- Send me a signed email containing your key fingerprint and attach your signed public key file (.asc-type text files please). Sign it with the key matching the fingerprint (which should also be the one you attached).
- I will import your key into GPG, verify the keyfile's signature and the signature on the fingerprint.
- I will compare the fingerprint generated by GPG with the one provided in your email.
- If they both match, I will send you an encrypted email containing a random string. You will then encrypt and email to me containing that string.
- By default if I cannot verify your identity a second way your key will be signed with marginal trust. Unless I can further verify your identity, you will stay at marginal. If I figure out a way I am comfortable doing that, I will post it here.
Key and Fingerprint
This is my primary public key. I am considering initializing a new key for the remaining email accounts and no longer using the old keys with the other email accounts on them for those who need to decrypt/verify email from those accounts. Keyfile. (May not download right. Working on it, sorry.) Also avaliable from pgp.mit.edu. After the public key is a signed copy of the key fingerprint.-----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
