On the Water: As the Mississippi River winds through the Twin Cities region, you see the river in several very distinct phases.  The upper river north of Minneapolis is wide, shallow, and even has a few minor riffles.  Most of the shore is parkland, so you get a feel almost of a wilderness river.  The shallowness keeps the motor boats away, and the shore has few buildings.
